Franchisee / Franchisor Relationship
We are in this exciting and unique business model together, one with distinct roles and responsibilities for both the franchisor – us, and the franchisee – you. Your franchise is an independently owned and operated business separate from ours. We share the registered marks, brand, and systems of operations. Steamoji has developed a smart and systematic approach to operations, customer/member care, training, marketing, and policies and procedures. We believe that franchisees who adopt our system and provide a safe and welcoming environment with staff who are passionate about our programs and helping apprentices become better builders.
The system has been refined for ease of use and implementation, and it is important for you and your staff to wholeheartedly embrace every facet of the system. The soul of every Steamoji franchise is defined by a commitment to the philosophy and core tenets, and to faithfully executing the overall operating system daily.
Independently Owned and Operated
We are excited to be in this relationship with you and want it to work well for both of us. For that to happen, we both must understand – and respect – our roles. We provide you with a specific direction based on our proven model; you carry it out at your Steamoji location. For example, you will hire, fire, and discipline your employees as well as any contract labor you use, like architects, builders, or electricians. We provide a template; you drive the implementation. Your success depends on YOU!
In each franchised system, there is a franchisor and franchisee. We must be transparent about this and alert the members to this fact. The phrase “Independently Owned and Operated” must be included in all written materials – stationery, contracts, and brochures, as a few common examples. It also must be posted in each location you operate. You are the CEO of this business.
“With franchising, you are in the business for yourself, not by yourself.”
– The Canadian Franchise Association (CFA)
This is true and comforting but remember: this franchise is your business. You alone are responsible for its success. The concept, the marks, and the brand are ours. We are focused on helping you achieve your goals with your Steamoji location – that’s where our smart and effective (and proven!) system for operating and marketing comes in – but how it’s applied, when you take action, and how you use your resources are up to you. You are the CEO. Being the boss is hard work, so be prepared to make tough but smart decisions. Every decision will have an impact on your success, from hiring and staffing to purchasing everything from laser cutters to paper clips, so always use thought and care. We will explain how our proven system components can be used to reach your business goals. In the end, you make the decisions that can create your profitability. We’re here to coach, advise, and continue to refine a system that’s beneficial to all. We’re confident that – with care – you can make sound choices.
Franchisee Operational Requirements
Together we can build a strong, smart, and vibrant brand and franchise system. We have developed standards, processes, and procedures so that you can consistently provide an outstanding experience for your clients. We’ve developed the template, but YOU are the core component of the system that delivers this experience.
As a franchisee, your main responsibilities are to:
- Protect the integrity of the name and Steamoji brand by adhering to our most current operational standards.
- Protect the marks of the brand and use them correctly.
- Complete initial training successfully and stay current with any additional training.
- Locate a site that’s acceptable to use.
- Open your academy on time with approved designs and suppliers.
- Recruit and retain passionate, professional, and well-trained staff.
- Take responsibility for the actions of the business and your staff, and solve any problems as needed.
- Remain current with all the system’s requirements and tools and use them appropriately.
- Acquire and maintain the required insurances.
- Maintain all the appropriate records and make them available to use upon request.
- Pay all fees on time and in full.
- Actively market the Steamoji brand in your local community, and to build and protect your territory.
- Actively participate in your business, ensuring its success.
- Be an active member of this franchise community and contribute to its game-changing growth.
Franchise Pre-Launch Support
We know there is a process to building anything, and we have put together our best practices in Real Estate, Construction, Marketing, and Operations with three step by step pre-launch systems.
- Find Your Academy – site selection, real estate and lease negotiation
- Build Your Academy – planning, construction, and finishing touches
- Launch Your Academy – The knowledge and training to run a successful business in your new space

Launch Your Academy
Before a new Steamoji World can open its doors, our operational checklist, the Countdown To Launch (CTL), must be completed. The CTL, along with your Launch Coach will guide you through a 16-week learning journey. Comprised of videos, documents, and tasks, the CTL will get you prepared for launch in the following aspects of the business:
- Business Planning
- People Development
- Sales & Marketing
- Family Experience
- Academy Operations
In addition to the CTL you may also be required to attend or review additional sessions as outlined by your Coach prior to Foundations Training.
Foundations Training
Foundations training is a fully immersive week-long training process that takes place at our corporate location. We know that training is a critical piece of developing your Steamoji location. Therefore, you and your Director are required to attend the Initial Training program, which we provide to all new Steamoji franchisees. This session will take place in the latter third of your CTL, typically a couple of weeks prior to the opening of your location.
Foundations Training sessions are provided at no additional cost (travel costs excluded). Everyone who attends must complete the training program to our satisfaction. If at any time during the training program, our staff determines that your Academy Director will be unable to complete the program successfully, we will notify you, and you must designate a successor who must then successfully complete the class.
Note: It is a requirement for all future Academy Directors to attend the first available Foundations Training upon hire.
Re-Training
We want you to get it right and feel comfortable, so we make re-training available to all franchisees and the employees they choose. Class schedules change regularly so inquire with your Coach for current schedule and availability.
Steamoji Coaching Program
Throughout your Steamoji journey you will always have a key contact at Head Office through our Coaching Program. The program evolves as your location grows but will consist of the following key tools:
- Goal Setting and Review Calls (weekly / bi-weekly)
- Business Scorecard Review (monthly)
- The Steamoji Deep Dive (bi-annually)
- One Page Plan Review (quarterly / annually)
Foundations Coaching
Our Foundation Coaching Program focuses on the first six months of operations of all Steamoji locations. We know that this is a critical time in developing your systems and establishing the right operational rhythm for long term success. This program will culminate in a Steamoji deep dive and possible field visit.
Growth Coaching
While Foundation Coaching focuses more on systems, Growth Coaching will focus more on strategy and leadership.
Coaching Tools and Documentation
One Page Plan
Goal setting is one of the hardest yet most critical parts of running a successful business. The most successful franchise owners learn how to set goals the right way.
Your One-Page Plan is the key system to follow when setting goals for your business. The Goal Setting & Review sheet cascades from your One-Page Plan. It is the daily and weekly “rhythm sheet” that keeps you and your team members focused on the most important priorities for the day and the week. It is your “to-do” list. You will fill out this sheet on a weekly basis (we encourage you to do it on Friday afternoons or Sunday evenings so you can hit the ground running and focused on Monday mornings). You will reference your One-Page Plan to make sure you are focused on planning the right tasks for the upcoming week.
Monthly Business Scorecard
If you don’t keep score, you will never know where you are, and you will never get to where you want to go. Keeping score is a must-have. You need to understand the key metrics of your business so that you know how to move the business forward. The key must-have system to follow is the Monthly Business Scorecard.
The Monthly Business Scorecard is required to be filled out for the previous month by the 5th day of every month.
The Steamoji Deep Dive
The Deep Dive is like a health check for your business. We dive into and score your location in all of 5 key areas of the business:
- Business Planning
- People Development
- Sales & Marketing
- Family Experience
- Academy Operations
This will give you a clear picture of what is working and what opportunities you have to grow your Academy even faster.
Field Visits
One of the most effective ways to support our partners happens through our in-market field visits. The visits are conducted periodically and focus on delivering the following benefits:
- Improve location profitability
- Maintain customer experience standards
- Keep Head Office current with field operations
- Maximize local market share
- Build location commitment to system vision and brand values
- Enhance the franchise relationship
Regional Meetings & Annual Conference
We typically meet twice a year, face-to-face as a Steamoji community to create an active learning cycle. This intentional cycle allows us to drive sustainable growth in key areas of our business.
Our annual conference takes place every August in Vancouver, BC. This is typically a three-day event that provides Franchise Partners with the opportunity to learn from incredible speakers, attend workshops and roundtables, network with peers and members from Head Office. We close with a celebration of our successes during the Annual Gala Awards. It’s a great time to rejuvenate and learn from one another, reconnecting to why we all fell in love with the Steamoji brand in the first place.
At the annual conference, we also introduce the two-three key strategic drivers and initiatives we will focus on for the year. Our coaching team then works with our Franchise Partners throughout the year to help build accountability to action these drivers and scale up their business.
Note: You and/or at least one representative from your franchise are required to attend each annual convention.
Our regional meetings are held every April, and are open to all Franchise Partners. Here we engage in dialogue about the most important issues facing the system. We revisit the key strategic drivers and initiatives that were introduced at the annual conference and complete a Health Check determining the current “health” of each location. Partners self-identify the areas of their businesses that are strong, where they are following the Steamoji systems and getting results, and where they can improve, along with action plans to mitigate risk and drive results.
Members from Head Office meet face-to-face with Franchise Partners to share, learn and discuss our program roll-outs, launches, trends, strategic plan, results and future goals. Partners then take away action items to improve their businesses and build their peer network.
